Police are investigating after a woman assaulted paramedics before stealing their ambulance vehicle this afternoon in Peregian Springs.

Around 2.50pm the woman was reportedly being treated by paramedics at a residence on Peregian Springs Drive in relation to a head injury.  During treatment and transport to hospital, the woman became aggressive with paramedics before assaulting them and stealing their ambulance vehicle.

Police attempted to intercept the woman but she evaded them and drove dangerously through several streets in Peregian Springs.

The woman crashed the ambulance into a bus stop a short time later on Pennant Court, Peregian Springs.

The woman was taken into custody by police and was transported under police guard to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

No one was seriously injured as a result of the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
