A man has died following an incident on Flinders Street on 21 December where a number of pedestrians were struck by a vehicle.

An 83-year-old Northcote man died in hospital about 11.30pm last night (29 December).

Hospitals have treated 19 other people injured during this incident, with six patients remaining in hospital.

A 32-year-old Heidelberg West man has been charged with 18 counts of attempted murder and one count of conduct endangering life.

Homicide Squad detectives are expected to upgrade one of those charges to Murder.

Investigators have already taken a significant number of statements and are steadily working through the witness list and conducting interviews.

Police anticipate that there are still a large number of people that have not yet been contacted by police.
