African Man may Assist Vic Police with their inquiries into a double stabbing

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released new CCTV footage as part of their ongoing investigation into a double stabbing in Footscray last year.

Investigators have been told two men were on a tram travelling north along Droop Street when they were approached by another man about 8.45pm on Friday 28 July.

The unknown man stabbed both victims before fleeing the scene on foot along Geelong Road.

A 26-year-old Maribyrnong man and a 20-year-old Footscray man were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Transit Safety Division have released previously unreleased CCTV vision of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is perceived to be of African appearance and was initially wearing a dark-colored overcoat, and a dark or black coloured beanie and scarf.

It’s believed the man discarded some items of clothing following the incident, and was last seen wearing a black singlet and is believed to have a tattoo on his upper left arm.

Anyone who recognises the man or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
